Elaine has been a follower of Jesus Christ from a very early age. She was raised in a Christian home where going to church wasn’t just a Sunday event or obligation, it was like being with family. While there were many formative years, it was as a teenager that Elaine got her first glimpse of the church as an even larger extended family.
Through her church, she was able to go abroad to work with Youth With a Mission (YWAM), on the ship “Anastasis,” the flagship of a fleet of Mercy Ships equipped to provide hope and healthcare to the needy in port cities around the world. The opportunity to come together and work with people from so many different countries and backgrounds provided a glimpse of the amazing diversity that is the true family of God. There is a unique excitement and grace that is experienced when differences fall away and the commonality is God and the desire is to serve.
While it may not be as exotic as being anchored offshore from a foreign port-of-call, the diversity of the NBCC family is special and has the same ability to make an impact on the world. Elaine looks forward in anticipation to see what God will do in and through NBCC.
Elaine worked at Stanford University for over 15 years in management. As Department Manager of Academic Student Affairs, she directed a successful graduate program in earth sciences. While at Stanford, she received a project management certificate that led to a role in facilitating processes and communications through project management.
Elaine is married to Kelly Smith. They are grateful for an eventful 24 years of marriage and share in the belief that what is in store for their years ahead will be even greater as they serve God together.
