GLIDE's Daily Free Meals program, initiated in 1969, now offers around 2,000 nutritious meals daily to combat food insecurity in San Francisco. Serving as a gateway to other GLIDE services, it prioritizes cultural appropriateness, variety, and dignity in its provision of meals to the vulnerable population, with partial funding from the Department of Disability and Aging Services.
Loaves & Fishes expresses gratitude for its 5,300+ volunteers who generously contribute over 42,000 hours each year, spanning diverse age groups. Despite the uncertainties of 2020, volunteers adapted to COVID-19 protocols, assembling essential items and participating in socially distanced events, playing a vital role in meeting the increased demand for meal services and providing crucial support to those in need.
The Marine Toys for Tots Program, managed by the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, aims to bring joy to less fortunate children by collecting and distributing new toys during Christmas. Established in 1991, the Foundation, led by veteran Marines and business leaders, collaborates with the U.S. Marine Corps to oversee the program, raise funds, and support local Toys for Tots Campaigns, emphasizing the importance of community unity and contributing to the well-being of children throughout the United States.
Volunteers are the heartbeat of Second Harvest. Volunteers help us pack and distribute food to neighbors in need throughout the county. By donating a few hours of your time, you’ll make it possible for us to provide healthy food to the 65,000 people we serve each month.
St. Anthony's operates San Francisco's largest free clothing program, offering new and gently-used clothing to individuals and families facing homelessness and poverty. Guided by Franciscan values, the program emphasizes the inherent dignity of all individuals, providing a boutique-like environment for recipients to freely choose high-quality clothing based on personal needs and style preferences, with a focus on maintaining a clean, organized store and offering friendly service.
