A prayer from Pastor Hurmon

God of Grace and Mercy,

We come to You on behalf of the people of Texas who are suffering from devastating floods.

Our hearts ache for those who have lost loved ones, including the many children whose earthly lives were cut short. We know that You understand our pain, for Scripture declares, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; God rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” (Psalm 34:18) In this time of suffering and loss, we ask You to comfort those who are grieving, grant swift recovery to the injured, and reunite family members who have been separated.

Please strengthen and protect the first responders and the courageous volunteers who are risking their lives to rescue others. Give health care workers wisdom, stamina, and the resources they need to care for the injured.

Lord, we ask You to provide for the immediate needs of all who have been impacted. Please move the hearts of people across the country to contribute to relief efforts, as Texas takes the first difficult steps toward recovery and restoration.

Even as we mourn the lost, we thank You for every person who was able to escape danger in time, and for Your ongoing care for those who have survived. Remind us, in this terrible hour, that through the resurrection of Your Son, You have declared that while death may speak with what feels like finality, it is not the final word—for You, O Lord, will have the last Word. And in that Word, death itself will be conquered.

We ask this in Jesus’ name,

Amen.
