A few months ago I wrote a post called The One Thing: The Power of Faith and Spiritual Belief roughly based on Gary Keller and Jay Papasan’s book titled The One Thing. In that post, I talk about how faith isn’t often considered a requirement for success. Similarly, physical fitness isn’t always intuitively connected with success but is in actuality critical to it.

Physical fitness and physique is often desired as an accolade, but it's more than just a goal of having a healthy body or good looks  – it's vital for overall success and spirituality. We’re all aware of the many benefits of physical exercise on our physical appearance and mental health. Here’s a reminder of why we all need to make it a priority for our professional lives:

Boost Your Brainpower: Exercise stimulates the brain, enhancing cognitive function, memory, and problem-solving skills. It also counterbalances stress, improving focus and concentration.

Paul writes in 1 Timothy 4:8 that bodily exercise has value.

It is important for us to work on ourselves, and not neglect our physical condition.

Increase Energy Levels: Physical activity improves energy levels, helping you tackle challenges with enthusiasm and endurance.

A fit body is more efficient, it allows you to accomplish more throughout the day.

One interpretation of Isaiah 40:31 is talking about physical health. That you will accomplish more, and be able to run without being weary.

Build Resilience: Overcoming physical challenges through exercise develops mental resilience. This ability to bounce back from setbacks is invaluable in both personal and professional life. Getting back into exercise can literally but also figuratively help you get back on your feet faster.

Enhance Confidence: Keeping workout routines in your life translates to an increase in self-esteem. Confidence is a trait everyone desires for themselves but also looks for in others. Increasing your confidence can attract opportunities or can open new doors for you. Spiritually as well, being fit can help with your confidence about fulfilling our purpose. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 highlights our bodies being temples, that we must steward them well so we can do all that our maker has intended us to.

So being fit can be a good reminder that you are setting yourself up for success to come.

Improve Overall Health: Regular exercise reduces the risk of chronic diseases, improves sleep, and strengthens the immune system. A healthy body is essential for a productive and fulfilling life.

Incorporating physical activity into your routine is an investment in your overall well-being and your long term success. Whether it's hitting the gym, going for a run, or simply taking a brisk walk, the benefits are undeniable. All of our bodies work differently and it may take time but remember that being in shape is less about how you look but more about how you feel and the habits you have.

Start by finding an activity you enjoy and gradually increase your intensity and duration. Get help from personal training or someone you know who works out or seems to keep themselves in good shape. There are also many free resources on the internet or an app to help you with your fitness goals.
