In this second week of the "Rooted" series, Pastor Hurmon reminds us that believers who are growing in their faith are receiving and applying practical teaching, and also have certain habits in their lives. These quiet choices to create good spiritual habits determine who we become and the power we bring into the world. They transform our lives and keep us rooted in Jesus, even when no one else sees them.
To develop good spiritual habits, we must develop a plan. As a practical matter, our plans for growth in God should involve arranging our days so that we experience deep contentment, joy, and confidence in your everyday life with God; creating a framework of abiding in God; and reframing our understanding of how we think of our growth in God not as rules, but as routine. We must take inventory of the way we live life, and determine how we change our habits to determine what we want to grow and what we want to change. Our habits should give us peace over anxiety and balance freedom and discipline. Some habits we should engage in are: solitude and silence, prayer and fasting, scripture readidng and memorization, and generosity. These habits give us the ability to learn to hear God's voice, to endure suffering and withstand temptation, and to experience generosity in the meausre that it has been given to us.
